How would your ideal community be laidout?

Now that's a big topic. I think a community that I would be in would be were each person or family unit had there own living space with shared cooking , work shops, and gathering area for what ever needed doing. There would be garden plots close to living areas with fields area for larger crops , corn grains etc. There would be out building for all the shared animals, tools, food storage.

I like your concept to ant bee. I know there are a lot of communities popping up like gophers on a golf course but seriously, shop around!

There are religious ones who expect you to follow that interpretation of religion, which often means the exclusion of some and hard line following of the religious laws. This can create many problems down the road as to who is leader, and are they his/her laws or gods... this is ideal for someone who shares the same religious beliefs and is a devout religious person.

Next we have the enlightened communities or planned community, these are much like ivan's tristar project, in which there are strict guidelines to follow for example, no consuming of meat or cooked foods, the sharing of all resources and mandatory communities involvement. These communities are very authoritarian and can easily lead to upheaval as many are pacifistic in nature with no fore planning to possible strife. However it's not to say they can't work, and if you agree with the listed rules and regulations this would make the ideal community for you. These often have pre-screening and interviews before your'e allowed to join.

The buy your safety community. This is ideal for the person without any survival skills and a big bank account. You simply pick a shelter under construction, buy a share of it and move in when tragedy strikes. The cons are the scams, many are selling spots in shelters without actually building one, or over selling them to make a profit much like the airlines do, and when it comes time, its first come, first serve. The other negative aspect is the lack of skill sets needed to survive, you may be in a comfortable shelter, but who's gonna provide sustainable food, sew clothes etc This shelter will be ideal for short term tragedy but be cautious as the tragedy can become long term, and then what are gonna do.

The collection community, this is a just a bunch people who got together to plan a community, they know each others skill sets, they have set up a meeting place or even a shelter and pretty much play it by ear. This is probably going to be the starting point for most. These communities will either dissipate once difference of opinions or beliefs come to play, or will evolve into one of the other said communities

The fourth community, and the one i chose is to create your own self-sustaining community, that includes your family only. You build the shelter, have land for farming and you have the supplies you need to rebuild if needed. No outsiders allowed, and you keep to yourselves. The negatives, you need a broad range of skill sets for survival, you provide your own food and rules pretty much dont exist other then no outsiders allowed. Long term it can work like swiss family robinson, as long as you don't have any inbreeding and that means you may have to welcome outsiders in order to keep the community functioning properly, but again, only the hard working will survive in this community.

The loner community, its not really a community, but some would rather be alone, scavenging, moving place to place maybe even trading between communities. This is perfect for those without the money to build their own shelters, but have the survival skills to be alone. This person is often against rules and would much rather worry about themselves then other people.

The last one is the polygamist community, often targeting young women in hopes of creating a harem who will often do all the work, while the man enjoy the spoils. Sounds great, but joiners beware, you will not only be his slave, but he wont allow you to have male children either. If you don't mind being controlled, manipulated or terrorized, then this is your ideal community

Xavier, i like that last waring, and people coming on line should really be forward of some of the ***** sniffing around this web site right. we know from the past, some can get away with it. I have a good mine to go under cover and exposed some ****. I dislike like predators.
That said I think i,m with you on the family community and not so much my extended family unless they follow my rules of you got to work. I think I would take in people we got along with, like non-religious types who maybe are just spiritually organic hard working and could make beer or run a still would be good. Or new how to make shoes or sewing , I suck at that need craft stuff.

I'm 100% atheist, so i wouldnt work well within a religious community. For me, it would be like a trip to insane asylum. I believe in negatie and positivie energies and that we can share those energies.. but when my number is up, its over, no afterlife, no resurection, no reincarnation... my energy is just released from my body and goes out into the universe, and my body will fertilizer.
