My most memorable Christmas was when I was 6 years old back in 1985. My sister and I shared a bedroom, we had a bunk bed. We lived in an old Victorian apartment building on the second floor which was also the top floor.
I went to bed about 7pm and I remember being so excited about Christmas coming the next day, made it near impossible to fall asleep, which I finally did.
Both my sister and I woke up in the middle of the night, my parents had gone to bed as it was completely quite. What woke us up was the sound of thuds on the roof of the building. We then heard sleigh bells jingling outside. We were actually more petrified then elated at the thought Santa might be real.
I remember climbing into my sisters bed on the top bunk and putting my ear to the ceiling to try and hear the noise better. It was at that moment i could hear the clicks of hooves more clearly and heavy snorting.
Both my sister and I jumped down from the bunk bed and ran into my parents room. Both my parents were fast asleep. We started shouting that Santa came and we heard him on the roof. My parents were not to impressed getting up so early, and they definitely didn't believe us either. My mom put on her housecoat and came into the living room with us and started handing us our stockings and presents to open.
The strangest thing about the entire thing, was there was two present in this very expensive looking shiny green and gold paper, that gave my parents a double take. My mom was a housewife so my dad never did anything around the house nor spend time with me or my sister so I dunno if she was shocked he might have gone out of his way for us, or if she didn't know where these extra presents came from.

The card attached said to A Good Boy and my sister's said to A Good Girl, both from Santa, written in black ink calligraphy, again something my parents cannot do. I opened my present to find a GI JOE tank with figurines, which was awesome, but also war toys, guns or violent action figures were banned in my house. My parents had an argument over this for many years later because my mom always assumed my dad bought it for me, which my dad still denies to this day. My sister opened hers and she got a Strawberry shortcake house and play dolls.

It was one of those amazing Christmas' that I'll always remember for as long as i live. I of course don't believe in Santa, but that Christmas there must've been some magic in the air, because someone left those presents, someone was on our roof and my parents still deny any involvement. Still so much mystery surrounds this day, my parents were very poor at the time, so much that we lived in a small 2 bedroom apartment. My mother often would sacrifice her meal so me and my sister could eat (don't even get me started on my dad's large portions). My mom would shop for clothes for us at the neighbourhood service; 25 cent sneakers are what i wore until i was 8yo. Times were tough then for my parents, so when expensive gifts show up out of nowhere, makes you wonder.
